The Google Business Profile mistakes quietly costing you customers
Your profile is the biggest lever you have in local search, and most businesses half-fill it and forget. Here are the gaps Google reads as "less trustworthy".
A complete profile gives Google more to trust, and gives the customer a reason to tap Call.
The most common profile mistakes are boring: the wrong category, missing services, no photos, and details that don't match your website. Each one quietly caps how often you show up. Fix them and you'll usually see movement within weeks, no ad budget required.
Your Google Business Profile is the single biggest thing Google looks at to rank you locally.
It's also the thing most businesses set up once, half-finish, and never touch again. Which means the fix is often free. You just have to close the gaps.
1. The wrong primary category
This is the big one. Your primary category tells Google what you are, and the wrong choice quietly caps how often you appear.
Pick the most specific category that fits. "Plumber" beats "Contractor". "Emergency plumber" might beat both, depending on what you do.
The right category is what gets you into this list at all.
2. Thin or missing services
If your services aren't listed in the words people search, Google can't match you to those searches. Spell them out, plainly, all of them.
3. No photos
Profiles with real, recent photos get more calls and more direction requests. It's a trust signal to Google and a nudge to the customer. Add your work, your team, your premises.
4. Details that don't match
If your name, address, and phone read differently on your profile than on your website or old directory listings, that's a trust problem. It waters down everything else you're doing.
Being listed isn't the same as ranking. Plenty of businesses have a profile and still sit on page two. The difference is almost always in the gaps above.
He sorted what everyone before him had missed on the website and SEO, and the changes showed almost straight away.

Common questions
How often should I update my profile?
Keep it accurate always, and add fresh photos and posts regularly. Activity signals to Google that the business is live and switched on.
Does the description affect ranking?
It helps relevance and it helps the customer decide. Write it plainly, in the words people actually use, without stuffing keywords.
